Victorias and Davids marrige:
VICTORIA AND DAVID WED IN FAIRYTALE STYLE!

It was the showbiz wedding of the century! Lovebirds Victoria "Posh" Adams and David "Becks" Beckham tied the knot at 4.02pm on Sunday July 4th at Luttrellsdown Castle in Ireland, a setting worthy of the most romantic fairy tale ever written. The ivy-covered castle, which dates back to 1794, is surrounded by 560 acres of beautiful grounds and was once owned by the Guinness family. Posh 'n' Becks found the castle after a worldwide search for a suitable venue. Then they called in real life posh organisers, Bentley's Entertainments Ltd run by Peregrine Armstrong-Jones, a cousin of Lord Snowdon. Bentley's have organised a series of posh parties ranging from Elton John's 40th to Princess Anne's son's 21st birthday party. Together with Bentley's, David and Victoria were involved in the design and planning of the lavish day every step of the way.

Down at the security office at Luttrellsdown Castle, the laminating machine was working overtime. Nearly a thousand passes were issued in the week leading up to the wedding weekend - apart from over a hundred security personnel, there were over 400 staff working flat out in the castle building the marquee and the dance floor, the covered walkway (which was partly thatched rather than covered by tarpaulin), laying purple carpet up the steps of the castle and from the castle to the marquee, pinning drapes, laying twenty round tables with the best Irish linen and silverware, fixing lights, running electricity cables, polishing champagne glasses, candlesticks, chandeliers, banisters and floors.

Special security passes were even issued to the dogs who were used to sniff out intruders - a couple of local lads were found trying to clamber over the perimeter wall - and baby Brooklyn had a security pass clipped to his baby carrier. Not that he was going to wander off or anything...

Chef Jason Reynolds brought in an army of cooks and bottlewashers to help serve the 236 guests with drinks and dinner. Bentley's, the organisers, used over 3,000 metres of fabric which included velvet for the drapes, Irish linen for the table cloths, and French voile for draping windows and doorways. The florists, led by Simon Lycett (who designed Elton's 50th birthday party) and John Plested (who did Viscount Linley's wedding flowers) used burgundy, dark green and cardinal purple as the colour theme for the several hundredweight of flora that was brought in for the occasion. The folly, an ancient building in the grounds of the castle where the golden couple took their vows, was decorated with silver birch leaves and there were thousands of red rose petals strewn on the floor for the bride and groom to walk over once they'd married.

Two fabulous cars were brought over from England especially to transport the bride and groom separately to the folly. Becks travelled in splendour in a silver Azure (which is worth close to a quarter of a million quid!) and Posh travelled in a black topped silver Arnage (worth slightly less but still loads).

An 18-piece orchestra played during dinner and when Posh 'n' Becks took to the dance floor for the first dance, it was to the Harry Connick Jr version of 'It Had To Be You', an inspired choice which resulted in spontaneous applause from the assembled guests.

The cake was cut with a sword that carried an inscription from Brooklyn and was subsequently cut into hundreds of pieces for guests and staff alike. It was yummy.

David started his day early by playing a round of golf with his father, his grandad and best man Gary Neville. Photographers could be seen hanging over the fence of the golf course trying to take shots of the Beckham swing, but Becks, his blond locks hidden under a black baseball cap, skillfully avoided their telephoto lenses. While David was whizzing round the golf course, his fiancee took a leisurely stroll around the grounds to check on the finishing touches. She walked from the house to the marquee at the back to see the magnificent flower arrangements being finalised and watched as the deep purple carpet was rolled out from the castle, through the covered walkway to the marquee itself. Then she met up with all the musicians in the orchestra to go through the running order of music and songs. As in all truly traditional weddings the bride and groom made sure they didn't see each other until the actual ceremony - they were helped by roving security men with walkie talkies who made sure the couple didn't bump into each other by mistake.

Early grey clouds which were threatening to gather dispersed just in time for the gorgeous duo to take their vows in front of 29 close family members and friends. David arrived first with baby Brooklyn in his arms and when Victoria arrived a few minutes later, David handed Brooklyn to the baby's nanny-for-the-day so that the ceremony could commence. Amid much misty eyed happiness, the glamourous couple were married by the Man-U mad Bishop of Cork, the Reverend Paul Colton; they exchanged beautiful rings, and were then swept back to the castle in a specially borrowed Bentley.

Victoria wore a fabulous ivory dress by American designer Vera Wang while David was wearing a beautiful ivory outfit by British designer Timothy Everest. Chief bridesmaid Louise, sister of Victoria, was in an ivory dress by Chloe and little Brooklyn, four months old to the day, was in his own designer outfit, specially made for the occasion by Antonio Berardi.

The rest of the Spice Girls were there - Emma Bunton in a white skirt, jacket and hat designed by Copperwheat Blundell, Mel C wearing a white jacket and top with a white leather biker's jacket designed by Daryl K which she'd bought on her recent trip to Los Angeles, and Mel G in a long black slinky dress. Baby Phoenix Chi was all in white and cuddled by her father, Jimmy Gulzar.
After the wedding ceremony a huge purple flag was hoisted above the castle's turrets - the flag was specially designed by Victoria and David and featured the initials V, D, and B - Victoria David and Brooklyn!

Around 250 guests - including most of the Man-U team, started arriving in the early evening for a glass or two of champagne (Laurent Perrier Rose, in case anyone's interested!) and sat down at 8.30pm to tuck into red pepper soup, a choice of grilled turkey breast or Mediterranean vegetables and sticky toffee pudding - Becks' favourite. For those watching their waistline, chef Jason Reynolds had created a light summer berry terrine.

After dinner the newly wed Mr and Mrs Beckham dashed upstairs to change into fabulous party outfits designed by Antonio Berardi. Victoria's dress was a sensational combination of sheer designer magic and breathtaking sexiness. Even little Brooklyn had his own party gear - complete with mini cowboy hat and a tiny pair of handmade shoes!

Speeches were made, telegrams were read out, glasses were charged - many of them with Guinness - and then the dancing started. Mr and Mrs B took to the dancefloor first and it wasn't long before all the guests were on their feet. The men had, by this time, discarded their formal morning suit coats and loosened their ties - the women swirled around in their white chiffon, their black linen and their high heels.

And at precisely 1.50am celebrations were brought to a dramatic finale when an outstanding display of fireworks exploded into the early morning sky and lit up the beautiful Irish countryside. It was a fitting climax to a fairytale day.

Geri (about the split)
GERI, IN HER OWN WORDS
Its almost a year now since Geri Halliwell walked out on her day job. It happens all the time people get fed up, frustrated, they feel trapped. But most of us dont have to prepare a statement about it to be read out on the nine oclock news. "Tracie Jones would like to express her regret at quitting the shelf stacking job at Kwik Save. She wishes to thank shop manager Mr. Hignett and all the girls." It just doesnt happen, right? But for Geri it did.
"I was standing on this mountain top, and I jumped, not knowing where I was going to fall," says Geri of her own very public exit from the Spice Girls. "Everyone was saying I was bonkers, but I had to go, to get my feet back on the ground."
The product of a Spanish mother and a Swedish-English father, who was 50 by the time she was born in 1972, the Watford girl describes herself as "a mongrel". She grew up listening to Madonna, Michael Jackson and Abba, but was also influenced by the music and films her father loved: Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Shirley Bassey.
THAT SPLIT

It was a closely kept secret but Geri had already decided to leave the Spice Girls come September 1998 and had told the other girls of her decision. She wanted to move on having decided she had achieved all she could as a Spice Girl. But last May Geri arranged to do an interview with ITN about her breast cancer scare as a young woman. The Spice Girls diary said no time and this made Geri question her priorities. It took her just one thoughtful evening to decide she had to quit.
As a Spice Girl, Geri had preached the gospel of Girl Power. Shed had hit records around the world, been hailed in the US as part of the new Beatles, sold millions of records made a feature film. She even got to meet Prince Charles and President Nelson Mandela. In fact Geri and the Spice Girls met all their heroes and became more famous than any of them. It was a roller-coaster ride that threatened never to end. But finally, Geri found the brake and decided it was time to get off, to discover if there was a Geri outside of Ginger.
"There was nothing contrived about the Spice Girls and Ginge is a part of me," she says. "But Id been wearing platforms since I was 18, and it was natural to grow out of it. I wasnt wearing those kind of clothes off-stage. My makeup was getting less. When I left, I needed to strip the lot away and say, Actually, Im an egg at the moment. Im in incubation!"
COMIC RELIEF AND THE UNITED NATIONS
If she thought shed take a breather, away from the glare of the public spotlight, she was wrong. The paparazzi followed her and the offers came flooding in: There were film roles, TV shows and one magazine offering #500,000 for her to spill the beans on life as Ginger, but Geri took her time. She stayed at her mate George Michaels house for a while and finally sold off some of the most famous clothes shed worn as Ginger Spice, raising #150,000 for Sargent Cancer care for Children. She volunteered to go to Uganda for Comic Relief and very nearly didnt come back. Filming on some rapids she nearly drowned not once but twice.
The pop inkies might have sneered at Geri in the past but the wider world listened to her. Geri was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador by the UN even if she was sometimes unsure as to what exactly her role was. She caused uproar when she sang Happy Birthday to the future king of England at a special celebration of Charless 50th birthday: "If you ever have constipation, just sing to Prince Charles I went to the loo eleven times, I was so nervous," she laughs.
TOO YOUNG TO RETIRE

Friends say Geri has been licking her wounds to some extent. "Ive been in mourning, re-evaluating myself," she accepts. "Id been wearing black, which was a reaction to the Ginger thing. But with Look At Me, I want to come back with a bang. Im nervous, but also a great believer in facing down fear. I dont want to be a granny later and think If only Id tried. Im 26 years old, Im too young to retire!"
When she left the Spice Girls, millions of Spice Girls fans heard the man on the news read the statement: "Ill be back." A year later Geri has kept her word. Some will be surprised that she has a voice, some that she can write songs. But no one who knows anything at all about Geri Halliwell will be surprised that she has plenty to say and that shes saying it loudly in your face.
"I want everything I do to be special, to be fun and wow! I could never be run-of-the-mill," she laughs.
Geri Halliwell is back. But then, you always knew she would be.
